Self-care checklist. We all need rest, why feel guilty?

After a couple weeks of feeling completely unmotivated — a conversation with my sweet husband was just what I needed to kick me back into gear. He said, “It’s ok to rest. No one can or should feel motivated and inspired 100% of the time.” Funny how permission to not feel guilty about time spent resting, was exactly what I needed to get pumped and moving again.

So in case any of you also struggle with feelings to constantly push yourself...

It’s ok if you don’t have any motivation in this moment. Listen to your body. Go ahead, drop the ball on whatever needs to be done today. Remember that taking care of your responsibilities, first means taking care of yourself. You don’t need to be everything, all the time and THAT IS OK.

  • Take a day off from responsibilities
  • Ask for help
  • Let go of guilt and forgive yourself
  • Go for a walk
  • Go on a day trip
  • Explore a new place
  • Open your blinds and let the light in
  • Dance to your favorite tunes
  • Sing your heart out
  • Run a hot bath
  • Read a good book
  • Declutter your house
  • Declutter your phones
  • Create a morning routine
  • Listen to an inspiring podcast
  • Write in your journal
  • Give thanks
  • Plant a garden
  • Get fresh air
  • Move your body
  • Meditate (even if for just 5 minutes)
  • Set goals for the week
  • Create something
  • Learn a new skill
  • Take a nap
  • Go for a swim
  • Binge watch your favorite show

  • Watch the sun go down
  • Enjoy your favorite meal

Do whatever makes makes you happy and rested, and don’t for a minute feel guilty about taking time for yourself.
